The first verse is very very fascinating. King David sacrificed his morals and his relation with God by killing a man to obtain love, and that is why the Hallelujah is so dark. Possibly this Hallelujah is a corrupted Hallelujah. Many people have already mentioned the biblical references to the story of King David (who supposedly was a composer of God) and his struggles with lusting over a woman and King David kills her husband and thus does the dirty deed. In a long long car trip my friend and I decided we should listen to the song and pause it, rewind, listen again, rewind, and analyze this song and here's what we came up with. Wow, everyone has such deep interpretations of these lyrics, and they're all a great read. I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool ya She broke your throne, and she cut your hairĪnd from your lips she drew the Hallelujahīut if I did, well really, what's it to ya? Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya Your faith was strong but you needed proof That David played, and it pleased the Lordīut you don't really care for music, do ya?

The New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners returns with a witty and effervescent novel about what happens when two people with everything on the line are thrown together by science-or is it fate? They are the ones going to daily mass, they are the ones dragging the families to Sunday church, they are the ones volunteering for various service projects, they are the ones organizing the devotional prayer meetings, they are the ones without whom there simply would be no faith community at all. I know less about what it is like in Evangelical circles, but very often the very Catholic churches which are criticized for being the most patriarchal are the ones which see women dominate as the lifeblood of the community. I thought I was familiar with these women and these stories, but I learned a lot throughout the process was inspired to see in a new way how God worked through women time and time again. The women of the Bible are complex people, just like us: courageous, frightened, questioning, flawed. In particular, I was eager to tell these stories in ways that people who are turned off to religion, completely new to the Bible, or who simply missed out on these stories, can still encounter them. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Twisted Tears by Stan Taylor* King 4699 Earl Bostic - Cracked Ice / My Heart At Thy Sweet Voice * King 4845 Earl Bostic - Poeme / O Sole Mio K9339-1 My Heart At Thy Sweet Voice King 4699 Hogan, drums.Ĭincinnati, OH, OctoK9337 Danube Waves King 4708 * King 4699 Earl Bostic - Cracked Ice / My Heart At Thy Sweet Voice Earl Bostic And His Orchestraīlue Mitchell, Tommy Turrentine, trumpet Earl Bostic, alto sax Stanley Turrentine, tenor sax Stash O'Laughlin, piano Clarence Kenner, guitar George Tucker, bass Granville T. * King 4708 Earl Bostic - Jungle Drums / Danube Waves * King 4674 Earl Bostic - Smoke Rings / Deep Purple Hogan, drums.Ĭincinnati, OH, AugK9325 Smoke Rings King 4674 * King 4653 Earl Bostic - The Very Thought Of You / Memories Earl Bostic And His Orchestraīlue Mitchell, Tommy Turrentine, trumpet Earl Bostic, alto sax Stanley Turrentine, tenor sax Edward Richley, vibes Alexander Sample, piano Charles Grayson, guitar Bobby Burton, bass Granville T. * King 4644 Earl Bostic - Melancholy Serenade / What No Pearls K9294-1 The Very Thought Of You King 4653 Los Angeles, CA, JK9293-1 Melancholy Serenade King 4644 1953 (age 19) Earl Bostic And His Orchestraīlue Mitchell, Tommy Turrentine, trumpet Earl Bostic, alto sax Stanley Turrentine, tenor sax Luis Rivera, piano Herman Mitchell, guitar Mario Delagarde, bass Albert Bartee, drums. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Bad blood secretsI think students interested in careers in industry, entrepreneurship, venture capital, or science policy will gain some perspectives from reading this book. While there are plenty of resources out there that help you understand how to search for a job, determine if it is a good fit and notice red flags, this book paints a picture of life in the biotech industry, both as an entrepreneur and as an employee. I was especially interested in it given its relevance to the biotech industry and on recently finishing the book, I realized GSBS students might also find it interesting and thought of sharing a little bit about it. One of the books that was recommended by a friend was “ Bad Blood – Secrets and Lies of a Silicon Valley Startup” by John Carreyrou, based on the rise and fall of the blood-testing company, Theranos. I began to read more than usual because of social distancing, going through the list of books I had been planning to read for a while. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Sweethearts by sara zarrThe problems of insecurity and the relationships of girls and boys are ubiquitous. This is a gritty, frightening novel that has been called a modern Lord of the Flies. Corpses begin to rot and must be disposed of students begin to form gangs to help ensure their survival. The Internet is down and cell phones won't work - there is no escape. A huge explosion occurs before the school day even begins - teachers die, part of the school collapses, and students scramble for safety. It's only the first day of school at McKinley High, but it will be a very long one. But with that said, there is enough fast-paced adventure in this dystopian novel, that I think boys will love it. There is blood and violence and enough sexual content that I recommend this book for ages 14 and up. Quarantine is not for the faint of heart. 7/5/2023 0 Comments Jsa golden ageIn 1961, the new Barry Allen Flash met his counterpart from the JSA, Jay Garrick, and soon the concept of alternate Earths established that the JSA had been from Earth-2 while the "modern" heroes were from Earth-1. The JSA's adventures eventually ceased as superhero comics fell out of favor in the early 1950s, but in time the Silver Age of comics brought new versions of heroes like the Flash and Green Lantern back to popularity. (The Stargirl TV series, meanwhile, has featured a selection of those characters both in their classic forms, and as reimagined modern versions, alongside heroes from the Seven Soldiers of Victory including Starman and his titular legacy successor.) The team debuted in 1941's All-Star Comics #3 - predating the Justice League by almost two decades - and featured a lineup of powerful heroes: Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Spectre, Atom, Hour-Man, Sandman, Jay Garrick’s Flash, and Alan Scott's Green Lantern.Įagle-eyed fans will notice that a couple of Black Adam’s characters are from that original lineup, as both Doctor Fate and Hawkman appear in the super-flick. The JSA is a classic Golden Age superhero team - the first superhero team actually - that was born out of the minds of Sheldon Mayer and Gardner Fox. Instead, it was a “shocker.” Truthfully, The Thirty-Nine Steps was not really any more shocking than many of the previous novels Buchan had published, but it featured two notable exceptions. When he finally did attach his name, he termed it neither a spy novel nor a crime novel. In fact, Buchan originally published his tale in serial form anonymously despite already being an established author. Little wonder that Buchan’s story attracted Hitchcock.īy the time Hitchcock turned The Thirty-Nine Steps into a movie, the spy novel (such as it is, even though the hero isn’t technically a member of any intelligence agency) had attained a certain comfortable level of legitimacy. Despite coming so early in his career (though by then he’d already directed close to twenty features), The 39 Steps was one of the early movies that set the tone for the rest of Hitchcock's career: a regular guy on the run from the baddies who in saving himself might just be saving the world. That movie- Rebecca-was still another five years down the road. This was before Hitchcock had become a household name or even made his first Hollywood movie. In 1935, Alfred Hitchcock directed a film adaptation of John Buchan’s novel, published two decades earlier. We are thankful for their contributions and encourage you to make your own.
